Kuda Kepang

This charcoal drawing of a man performing the Kuda Kepang is one of the exhibits that can be found at the Johor Art Gallery in Johor Bahru. The gallery is managed by the Yayasan Warisan Johor (lit. Johor Heritage Foundation) and is located at the YWJ Complex. For easy reference, its opposite the JDT Training Complex at Sri Gelam, facing the Straits of Tebrau.

The Kuda Kepang is a dance that has its roots in the Javanese community and is danced in rhythm to a hypnotic background music performed by an music ensemble. Its a performance best witnessed during special occasions in the villages and are so much different to the water-downed performances performed at official functions and for visitors from out-of-state. Truly a performance to witness and experience.
