The main entrance gates leading to the Istana Bukit Serene, one of the residences of the Johor Royal Family, as well as one of the most notable landmarks of Johor Bahru. Note the personal royal emblem of the reigning Sultan of Johor, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim ibni AlMarhum Sultan Iskandar, atop the gates at the main entrance.
The two guards at the guard posts are in the official uniform of the Johor Military Force (JMF). JMF is considered a living history of Johor as it was established in 1886 during the reign of Sultan Abu Bakar, the Father of Modern Johor and is still in service today. It is considered the oldest military unit in Malaysia and is the only one under the control of a state. The JMF owes its allegiance to the Sultan of Johor.
