Gua Tempurung is believed to have existed for 10,000 years, since 8,000 BC and is made up of 5 huge domes, with stalagmites, stalactites and other rock formations found only in this part of the world.
It is located in Gopeng, Perak which is about 24 km south from the capital of Perak ie Ipoh, and estimated at about three hours drive from Kuala Lumpur (depending on how fast you drive!).
It is described as a limestone cave and is apparently one of the largest in Peninsular Malaysia. It may not be as big as the Niah and Mulu caves of Sarawak but it is considered as easy to explore, comparatively. It runs for a total of 3 km with almost half that length running under the limestone hills of Gunung Tempurung and Gunung Gajah.
But then again, 3km underground, up and steep gradients is not the same as 3km above ground.
